Our company was founded in 1977.
Roberto, born in 1949, an ETHZ agronomist engineer, embarked on the profession of winemaker, beginning by cultivating 1 hectare of vines. This was joined over time by other vineyard plots in the area of Stabio, Ligornetto and Seseglio, growing to the current 9 hectares.
Andrea, born in 1979, after compulsory schooling, first studied viticulture in Châteauneuf (VS) and later oenology and viticulture in Changins (VD). He inherited his father's passion and since childhood has followed him in his daily activities in the vineyards and winery. After graduating in 2000, he joined the family business.
Vineyard
In 1994 we first vinified 10% of the harvested grapes, from which we obtained Castanar, our estate's first wine.
Our major production is Merlot grapes, but we also grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Viognier, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Carminoir, Marselan, Caladoc and Tannat. We currently produce approx. 45,000 bottles per year; our wine range now includes 4 single-vineyard whites, 1 white blend, 1 rosé of Merlot and Syrah, and 8 reds, including 3 Merlot AOCs and one particular blend, which is a kind of bet by young Andrea. In fact, it is thanks to the cultivation of particular grape varieties that are not very present in our latitudes that we can devote ourselves to the production of wines that want to differentiate themselves from the classic Ticino Merlot.
Winery
In 2015 we acquired one of Capolago's important and historic wineries located at the foot of Monte Generoso. Its ample space and the modern technology we have at our disposal allow us to carry out winemaking work under optimal conditions. Hand-picked and meticulously selected grapes are gently pressed to obtain the must, which first performs alcoholic fermentation and then malolactic fermentation, in a controlled environment that ensures full respect for the natural qualities of the fruit.
In the cellars dug into the rock, French oak barrels are laid down. In a constant and naturally cool and humid climate, which is established thanks to the long air tunnels that penetrate hundreds of meters into the slopes of Monte Generoso, the wine enjoys a long period of maturation, acquiring structure and character. It is thus ready for bottling and further aging in the bottle before it can release all its aromas and flavors.
Tasting Room
On the second floor of our winery is a large room that can accommodate up to 40 people.
Opened in 2017, tastings and food and wine events are organized in it.
